KGWN: September is Peripheral Artery Disease Month

Peripheral Arterial Disease is a very common disease, about 18 million American’s suffer from the disease. Also known as PAD can be treated.

We had Dr. Elias Kfoury on the morning show to go over a little of what PAD is, the symptoms, and how to treat the disease.

PAD is a chronic circulatory condition in which narrowed blood vessels reduce blood flow to the limbs. Common symptoms of PAD involve the lower body starts cramping, pain, tiredness in the leg or hip muscles while walking or climbing stairs.

There are steps you can take to prevent PAD, if you’re a smoker quit smoking, keep your blood sugar level in good control, if you’re diabetic, exercise regularly, lower your cholesterol and blood pressure levels, and maintain a healthy weight.
